WHEN & HOW MUCH?

HOW MUCH SLEEP DO YOU NEED?

  • OWL OR LARK

As active as an owl at night or up early like a lark: You have your own "internal clock" which determines your body rhythm and when you feel widely awake and tired. Also we need different amounts of sleep and the amount depends on our sleeping habits, physical state and age.

The fact is that there is no such thing as a normal amount of sleep. The decisive factor is not only the duration, but also the quality of the sleep. Studies in sleep laboratories have shown that people who sleep for short periods have just as much deep sleep as everyone else.

  • THE AVERAGE AMOUNT OF SLEEP

There is no generally applicable rule for the right amount of sleep, but it is possible to give some guidelines based on your age. Babies sleep between 17 and 23 hours a day, while the average sleep requirement for an adult is seven to eight hours. As you grow older, you need less sleep and after the age of 50 the average sleep requirement often falls to below six hours.

The best mechanism for determining how long you need to sleep is your own body. If you feel fit, well and rested during the day, then you've had enough sleep at night.
